If you find that your computer is locked with an IP address of 169, it can generally mean the following:

  • DHCP server is temporarily unavailable
  • The computer is not properly connected to the network
  • The computer is not allowed to connect to the network
  • The computer itself could not communicate with a DHCP server
  • Your router is stuck or stuck and therefore needs to be rebooted
  • Wi-Fi or internet connection not working

Microsoft reserves the IP 169 range for private network addresses.

With that in mind, if your computer is set up to get an IP automatically, you can get one of those (169).

When this happens, APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing) checks to automatically configure itself with a default Class B IP address and subnet mask.

If you’ve tried restarting your computer/router and your PC is still stuck with a 169 IP address, we have some solutions you can try.

What can I do if the Computer is stuck with a 169 IP address?

    1.Check your system’s configuration

Computer Is Stuck On 169 IP Address

Some PC users may have made certain configuration changes to their systems.

Whether updating the operating system, upgrading to a major operating system version, migrating to a new system, or performing a system restore, all of this can affect your PC.

With that in mind, check the recent changes to your system and try to undo them one by one.

If you don’t see an improvement, you can skip to our other suggestions.

    2.Reset your firewall

Computer Is Stuck On 169 IP Address

One of the reasons IP address 169 is assigned is to enable the network interface to create an ad hoc network without an established network.

This only happens if the network detects a suitable hardware connection, but cannot communicate with the DHCP server to obtain an IP address.

In this situation, the culprit is usually the system firewall.

So it makes sense that resetting your firewall preferences and rebooting your system can solve this problem.

So a VPN can not only keep you away from traffic monitors, spies and hackers, it can also prevent these kinds of errors from occurring.

PIA is an excellent choice when it comes to VPN solutions, thanks to its massive server network (22,000+ and growing) and speed.
